An entire essay could be written about any facet of Lincoln Road from the people to the shops to the park to the fashion to the homeless to the pets to the advertising to the… well, you get the picture.
For now, though, I’d like to just provide an overview of one of my favorite places to lounge, meet friends, and take photos.
Lincoln Road is a visual treat with so much to see and take in during both the day and the night. The outdoor “mall” itself (open only to foot traffic and non-motorized traffic like bicycles, skateboards, and skates) runs along Lincoln Road from Alton Road to Washington Ave and is comprised almost entirely of shops and restaurants.
The west end ends with a beautiful three-story, eighteen-cinema theater while the east end opens up onto Washington Ave with a major bus stop transporting people around the island and off the beach.
This little stretch of road provides for some of THE best people-watching in South Beach. With its high end shops and boutiques, its park located where Euclid Ave intersects Lincoln, and with its ample shade and seating everywhere, Lincoln Road draws a diverse crowd. From the ridiculously fashionable who meander in and out of shops to the family out grabbing a nice lunch outside to the girls in bikinis (and the occasional guy in a mankini) walking home after a day at the beach to people exercising to all of the unusual characters that show up to the occasional homeless trying to find decent leftovers in a green trash bin, Lincoln Road presents a broad and yet accurate slice of life across the beach. And let’s not forget all those beautiful pets!
The crowds change from day to night as well, with a fair amount of the well-heeled engaging in their pre-game partying on Lincoln Road. The game being, of course, South Beach’s world-famous nightlife.
A few local artists perform along the road during the day, many of them stationed in certain fixed areas (each having applied and having been selected once a quarter by the City of Miami Beach). Of course, there are always artists who just happen to sit around, perform, or sell their product across the beach.

And every other Sunday, there is an open-air market where local vendors sell their wares. Here, you’ll find all kinds of vintage and modern items available for purchase. Home decor items. Clothing. Fruits and vegetables. Smoothies. And if you enjoy the nearly lost art of the haggle, the market is the place to do it.
Day or night, it is an excellent place to relax.
The people are simply beautiful, the road is a pleasure to walk along, the atmosphere is simply alive. One of my favorite places to chill and wander around on the beach. And obviously, to take photos.
